I was tremendously impressed by this writer and book. She wove an interesting and clear story of 8 murders, 8 slain dogs & horses, 20 injured humans, 4 or 5 injured animals, and the remorseless shooters. All this happened within about a year in 05-06,in close proximity to Phoenix. What could have been a mish-mash of police reports and confusion worked into a comprehensive picture of what these crimes did to a community and to the victims. The story didn't lend itself to telling in a totally chronological manner. Thus, at first, I was concerned that the jig-jag pattern would be hard to remember and get into. But Kimball's skill, coupled with thorough research, got this reader hooked. I really felt like I knew the victims in many cases; those who had animals destroyed or harmed also became vividly alive. One of the things I liked the best is that the author treated the least 'important' of victims just like those with more community involvement or prominence. And, her mastery of the thought patterns of the dimwits who perpetrated this spree seemed both reasonable and well-portrayed. We've all known losers like this, just not bold enough to do so much damage to so many. I highly, highly recommend this book and will look for more from the same author.
