In this story of a reluctant succubus, Richelle Mead has succeeded in creating (yet another) fascinating world of demons, angels, vampires, etc. Georgia Kincaid is reminiscent of other such characters - the edge of Anita Blake meets the romantic longing of Sookie Stackhouse. Likeable characters and great storylines - it was a pretty quick read but I was sad when it was over - I'm looking forward to the next book!

Overall i enjoyed this book to no end! What female wouldnt love to work in a bookstore, shapeshift her clothes, and have vampires for best friends! Gerogie is a solid character and the mystery was well written. There was a twist at the end that i didnt see comming, but im proud to say I had the killer guessed! The author really makes you care about the characters and i cant wait to read the rest in the series. I found myself rooting for her in the end!
I have already placed an order for the next books at my local book store. Well worth the money to buy instead of waiting 2.5 years on the wish list! You will not be dissapointed if you buy it directly from the book stores. Its a keeper in my opinion.

I read this book because I'm a huge fan of Richelle Mead. Hands down, she is one of my favorite authors. Like all her other work, I loved this book. Ms. Mead has this incredible way of making you like/love characters that you wouldn't normally find yourself liking. Once you start with this book, you'll want to have the other 3 books in the series available to you as they are very addictive. So, map out a weekend for reading and enjoy!

I really enjoyed this book. It was very easy to get into and the story progressed at a very enjoyable rate. I really like Georgina and I think she is a hoot. The ending made me cry my eyes out but I was very happy with it. I can't wait for the next one.

I was really looking forward to reading this book. The Vampire Academy series is one of my favorite new series and I was hoping that Mead's first adult series would be just as engaging. I didn't find this series opener as engaging as Vampire Academy was and I thought the characterization was a bit weak. The world that Mead created is interesting though and the main character has to deal with interesting moral issues.
Georgina Kincaid is a succubus. Unfortunately she is a somewhat unwilling succubus; instead of corrupting good souls she tends to feed off of the bottom-dwellers of society, much to the disdain of her demon boss. Georgina likes to live as a human and holds a job at a book store. When immortals in the community start dying after they argue with Georgina, the demon and angel community wants to know how she is involved.
I wanted to love this book, but I really only found it somewhat engaging. Georginia has been alive for centuries yet she still seems to struggle with some basic interaction with humans; which I found a bit unbelievable. She is also an indecisive and weak character. She spent a lot of the book getting distracted and making decisions and then unmaking them. She also spent the majority of the book whining about her succubus nature and then giving into it and then whining that she gave into it. All in all I thought the main character left a lot to be desired. Georgina's bright spot was her sharp wit; which after reading Magic Bites, still wasn't nearly as sharp as Kate Daniel's.
The above being said, some of the side characters were worth meeting. Gerogina's demon boss was interesting and his angelic friend Carter also promises to be an engaging character. The book writer Seth has many dimensions to his character that are just starting to be explored. The world itself is also interesting; Mead's angle on demon/angel politics was engaging and I am interested in learning more.
All in all I was expecting more of an paranormal action book and what I got was a paranormal romance novel. The actions scenes are all but non-existent; in fact Georgina spends some of what could be the most intense action scenes oblivious to the world. There are sections where the book drags quite a bit and not a whole lot happens. Overall though the book was engaging and interesting to read. In fact I have to say that the last three or four chapters in this book really redeemed it and made me decide to read the next book.
I am trying to keep in mind that this was kind of the intro book to the series, so overall I think it was okay. I am interested in what the second book will bring, but still on the fence as to whether or not I will continue reading after that. I really like my paranormal books heavier on the action, than on the romantic side. This book was definitely more of a romance. It has potential to be more of an action type.

I enjoyed this but it contains information on angels, demons and succubus that I didn't know so it read slowly since I had to assimilate the new info as I was reading. Georgina Kincaid is one messed up chick. She loves Seth Mortensen, her favorite author who moves to Seattle, but is terrified to get to close to him due to the whole succubus thing. She doesn't want to suck out his life force hence she tries to stay far away.
Her relationship with Roman runs the same gammet. She seems to be a tease. She draws them in, plays with them, then changes her mind and pushes them away. I found this irritating and couldn't figure out why the guys were putting up with it. Then I figured it was the whole succubus thing...sexually irresistable.

Her Vampire Academy books might be more well known, but I prefer this series. Who would have thought a minion of hell would be such a sympathetic character.

The story is great and very entertaining. I love the main character and the storyline that is a "Who Done It" type of thing. What I loved most tho is the supporting characters. They are so fun and endearing and likable! Mead does a great job creating this whole group of supernatural friends and colleagues with such unique personalities and character traits. Each one has his own very distinct quirks and characteristics that you fall in love with. It's funny to feel such affection for a group of demons who live to do evil, but she makes them so human by giving them each their own set of insecurities or personal moral battles to wage. She does such a great job bringing them to life that you feel like you've just made a new circle of friends and can't wait to spend more time with them. I'm looking forward to the next book and seeing how the story and characters develop.

I cant recall having read a book where the leading character is a succubus before. By the very definition, a succubus isnt someone a guy should be getting intimate with, so there goes any chance of a happily ever after with Mr. Right for our succubus heroine, in my opinion. At any rate, Georgina manages to make her job as a succubus interesting. She has a lowlifes only policy so the souls shes taking arent innocent to begin with, though her demon supervisor would rather she expand her criteria. The upside to this life that I really enjoyed is that Georgina can shape shift into anything and can become invisible. She gets to choose her body and appearance, the persona others will see. Georgina will never have to worry about having to buy larger size clothing because her craving for ice cream has gone to her butt. She can just shape shift herself into a size 4. She also works in a bookstore and seems to have access to an unlimited quantity of white chocolate mochas and free books. Not a bad arrangement at all
I also found Georginas past intriguing. The reasons she became a succubus were interesting and though she seems happy with her life and choices for the most part, Georgina still mourns her old life and the people in it. I do hope she doesnt spend a lot of time dredging up the past, though.
There are a lot of interesting characters in this book and it was a little bit overwhelming trying to keep everyone straight. Vampires, angels, and demons are among Georginas friends and associates. Georgina also has an attraction to a couple of mortal men, Roman and Seth, but she is trying to be careful as she doesnt want to hurt them. The simple act of kissing can take years from their lives.
The villain in this story is a different type of character for me as well. It didnt take me long to figure who the villain was, but finding out what the villain is came as a surprise. This kind of character in my reading is also a first for me. The villain is targeting immortal creatures and Georgina, unfortunately, is one of the victims when she is viciously attacked and beaten. Luckily, she survives and heals quickly, but other immortal creatures are not so lucky. With the help of her friends, Georgina is trying hard to solve the puzzle of who is behind the attacks and why before she loses her life or someone close to her dies. I very much enjoyed the way this story played out and learning why the villain was attacking immortal creatures proved to be very interesting. I will be looking for the next book in the series to see what Georgina and her friends get involved in next. Very, very different from Mead's Dark Swan series, Succubus Blues contains Succubi, Vampires, Imps, Demons, Angels, and everything in-between.
Georgina became a succubus to right a wrong, but prefers to only work with men of "low moral character" rather than the higher-energy good guys. The higher ups aren't happy about this, but Georgina has been a succubus for so long she is jaded with her life.
Throughout the book there are wonderful snippets of Georgina's life from an ancient civilization, and her struggles of falling for a good guy but resisting the temptation he presents.

I really liked this book and series. The book is about Georgina Kincaid and Succubus, worker from hell with a heart of gold. And a full time job at a book store. It has Angels, Demons, Vampires, etc. It is a enjoyable book. An interesting concept if you like paranormal romance. Be ready to shade tears and some action as the series continues. I am a big fan of Richellle Mead and have so far not read anything that has bored me or has me wondering why I read her books.

So much win. I was reluctant to start this book for so long. I think it was mostly because of the premise. Huge misconception that it would be all sex, no plot but I was so horribly wrong. I think that since I had such low expectations that it totally blew me away.
Sure it started out with a "job" for our infernal heroine but then it quickly escalated to more. Murders and stalking, romantic entanglements, witty banter, and yes... sex. Georgina is a succubus after all.
The only negative in this story for me was that I figured out what and then who the big bad was before it was told to us. However, there was a little twist that I never saw coming so well done there.

However, she does happen to also work for a demon as an implement to corrupt men's souls.
While are never given her actual age, there are sporadic flash-backs to her past as a human that imply she dates back to Roman times. So after thousands of years she's understandably weary of the game of seduction and corruption. She's kind of a vegetarian Succubus: she only feeds off of the jerks that were cheating on their spouses and the like.
There is a lot of biblical mythology in this book, because Georgia's boss is a demon (i.e. fallen angel) that hangs out with an angel. And the main conflicts involves offspring of angels and human women. But it's not as melodramatic as you would think. The main plot line of the novel is Georgia's dilemma that she can't date or be intimate with men she cares about because it would sap years off of their life. So when her favorite author moves into her area and the two start and on again and off again flirtation she's between a rock and hard place.

I really wasn't sure I'd like this book based on the subject matter. The definition of a succubus is "a demon in female form, said to have sexual intercourse with men in their sleep". But, the author has made the book so much more. It's actually quite a poignant story.
Really enjoyed this book and looking forward to reading more in the series !
This is a really great series. It's been too long since I read the first one to adequately review but I know I liked easy book better as I got into them. The character development and growth is perfectly paced and the final book ties up all the mysteries very satisfactorily. You won't be sorry if you stick with it and read them all. :)

Richelle Mead's Vampire Academy series is one of my favorite series of all time, so I'm sorry to say that this book disappointed me. I expected snark, sexiness, action, and a sweet, enduring kind of romance--and I got them... in small, piddling quantities.
On the bright side, I did rather like Georgina's voice. On the outside, she's gorgeous, which made for a lot of sexual-attraction fun in the book. However, we very quickly realize that she is no ordinary succubus, for she has long-harbored regrets and fears of her own. It is easy to empathize with her at the same time that we are entertained by her.
Seth, while not having as big a role as the back cover summary implies (and as I wanted), is still very, very attractive. He makes me wonder why there aren't more introverted, awkward, yet deeply loyal and sweet love interests out there...because there really should be!
Unfortunately, Seth is not enough to make me keen on continuing this series. It's not too badly written, but I still didn't connect to the characters or the story as well as I wanted to. I wished the paranormal aspect, such as Georgina's innate succubus nature, could have been better explored. It was hard for me to see Georgina as an actual succubus rather than just a rare gorgeous woman who just wants a genuineness that all her drooling, staring admirers cannot give her.
Overall, SUCCUBUS BLUES didn't grab me the way other UFs did. I don't think I will be continuing, but I WILL be keeping in mind the high appeal of the awkward love interest for future reference!

Well, I was skipping over the boring parts (like near the end when she searches for anyone who could be considered a "boyfriend", to make sure they're safe). But, there were also times when I could barely put the book down.
Decent confrontations, characterization, and mysteries both small and large. The series driving mystery is "how does a succubus settle down with someone she loves without draining away his life force??". She gets cryptic hints from a cryptic angel that happiness is possible.
I liked that angel, and might miss him if I don't return to the series.
Sometimes a good read is based on vicarious wish fulfillment. Who wouldn't want to be the center of attention, with succubus charisma? Never aging immortality and shape-changing sound good too, except for the damnation part. That's kind of a drag. The "damning mortals" part reduced my interest in the main characters and her friends.

A succubus that longs to be human and wants to be loved rather than stealing souls of men conquered during sex. And Georgina Kincaid walks off the pages and into the reader's heart. I spent the entire book wishing Georgina would be able to find love and I won't ruin it for you, but what a brillant book!. Extremely interesting and a fast read. I can't wait to read the next one.

Enjoyed the new characters and was sad when I turned the last page. Have put the Succubus on Top on hold at my library. Can't wait
Georgina Kincaid is a succubus. Has been for hundreds of years. She's currently assigned to the demon district of Seattle, but she's not really feeling being a succubus anymore. Oh, sure, she still needs to eat sexual energy from men, but she tries to keep it to the low-lifes, like cheaters, and avoid the good guys. Thankfully her demon boss lets her lack of stealing souls for the bad side slide. All in all, life is pretty good for Georgina. Her favorite author is even coming to do a reading at the bookstore she works at! But one night a vampire is killed and threats start coming in against all the baddies in Seattle--including Georgina.
Getting an urban fantasy that isn't all about a demon slayer but instead is about the demons is just awesome. It is really fun to be rooting for the succubus, demons, and vampires. Also, it's nice that for once we pop into the middle of the main character's life instead of meeting her right when she gets her powers. The sex scenes are well-written. Um, really well-written. *coughs* The love interest is realistically attractive and intelligent, which is pure win.
So what's keeping it from five stars for me? I'm not a fan that Georgina has somehow turned into a reluctant succubus. I want my succubus to steal men's life energy and LIKE IT.
Overall, this is a delicious urban fantasy that I highly recommend to fans of the genre who enjoy steamy sex and rooting for the bad guys.

Best of the last 3 vampire books I've read. Great characters, very engaging , witty/sarcastic, funny & even a little sex. Got more than I bargained for with this book, which was great! I'd read the rest in the series but already have a mountain high pile I'm trying to whittle down :-)

I like this series. Although Anita Blake (Laurell Hamilton) makes a better succubus.
