Lori Tharps hits it out of the park with this book. The book gives you an insider view into the lives of two women, one black and one white. The reader explores their relationship with each other, and with other characters in the book. This book is extremely well written and the characters are well developed. Tharps covers race, class, relationships and love in this timely novel. She is bold enough to say things that we often think to ourselves but never say aloud; thereby giving voice to our innermost thoughts. I am not sure that the reader will be surprised at what happens in the book or even in the conclusion. I do think the author's approach to the plot and storyline was complex, much like our lives. This is a book that I will think about more in the days to come.
