The National Science Foundation has given several grants to the senior author for canyon research, and the U.S.Navy Electronics Laboratory has supported the work of the junior author and his assistants. In recent years, both of us have devoted almost full time to the study of the valleys of the sea floor. Trips to many parts of the world have been made to obtain information which we are presenting in this book.
