Detailed autobiography of the singer, who indeed had an unusual life. Raised in North Dakota, she wanted to be famous, and escape a hard life, her stepmother, and the brutally cold Plains. She did become famous, was at times wealthy, and lived the life of movie stars she watched as a child. As she aged, she regretted not having a lasting marriage/more children, but still lived extravagantly, even while often living beyond her means.
