While this is an often inspiring and moving account of one boy's recovery from hideous abuse and neglect, there is something about the author's voice that I found alienating. I couldn't help but root for this courageous little boy and applaud the triumph of love and endurance in his life, the adult Dave Pelzer is a bit of a self-promoter...in a way that doesn't always ring sincere.
The most inspiring and yet the most atrocious book I have ever read. I wept though out most of the book due to the horrendous nature of the torture Dave was subjected to but could not put it down. If one child can survive though so much vileness and abuse to become a phenomenal human being then anything in life is possible.
