If I could give this book 6 stars I would. Based on the experiences of an actual Italian boy during WW II.

The story of boys forcibly interned in a German work camp and the escape of one of them is a good one, but was written rather simplisticly. I think this is more a story for a young reader than an adult.
Note--My book shows title as Stones IN Water
Roberto drank from the snow-fed water in the stream and shivered. He had left the wolf behind more than an hour ago, but the image of its maddened face lingered and kept him from thinking straight.
I bought this for my daughter, but ended up reading it and it was a beautifully written book.
