Mediocre suspense novel - ultimately left me disappointed. This book definitely had twists and turns throughout the story. And the story itself was interesting enough to keep me reading it. A girl and her sister abducted; only the girl returns. That said, I have to admit that I figured out the final twist about half-way through the book. The author did her best to throw the read off-track, adding a detail here or there that makes you re-think who it might be.

A little slow moving for me and the relationship seemed a little forced. It took me a week to ge through the first 250 pages and two days to get throught the last 150. The pace picks up and the end is so worth the read.

A good who-dun-it, with a surprise ending.

I really liked this book but then I like Karen Harper books and the twists and turns you take before getting to the end.
great read
I really enjoyed this book. It is about two sisters who are kidnapped, one is returned, the other is not. Fast forward 16 years. The returned sister starts searching for what happened to her sister. While I had an inkling who the "bad" guys were, there was a true twist at the end.
On Jenna Kirk's 16th birthday the day of her first kiss from her longtime crush, Mace MacCamon, her charismatic older sister's boyfriend Jenna and her sister, Mandi, are abducted from the yard of their home in a Midwestern quarry town. Several days later, Jenna alone is found wandering in her grandfather's stone forest of eerie carvings, drugged, with her memory gone. Fifteen years later, Jenna returns to uncover the truth. But as she regains her memory, someone tries to scare her off, and the culprit may be someone she trusts most: Mace, who was the prime suspect in Mandi's presumed death; Jenna's driven mother, who's utilized the tragedy to become Indiana's first female lieutenant governor; a psychiatrist who has urged Jenna to repress rather than work through her past; or a stalker who's either a Norman Bates¤type psycho in women's clothes or Mandi back from the dead.
Excellent thriller. You think you've solved it, over and over!
2 young girls disappeared one night, and only one returns.Years later we trace it all.
karen harper just keeps on getting better and better
This was a good story. Suspense with a little romance thrown in. I liked the character of Jenna a lot. I really like this author.
One warm night sixteen years ago, sisters Jenna & Amanda Kirk disappeared. Days later, Jenna was found wandering alone, with no memory of what had happened...and no knowledge of her sister's fate. While the girls' mother spun the tragedy into political victory by becoming the state's first female governor, Jenna became overwhelmed by nightmares & guilt. Now, desperate to uncover the truth about what happened that night, Jenna returns to Stone County. but the family's Victorian home seems more of a haunting ground than a haven as Jenna begins to suspect someone is trying to frighten her away. To hurt her. And as memories begin to surface, Jenna is gripped by a growing fear about the place and about the people closest to her. Because the labyrinthine caves of her childhood are hiding old secrets...dangerous, deadly secrets. And Jenna must face her own darkest terrors to expose a legacy of murder carved in stone.
Jenna returns to the town where she and her sister were kidnapped and her sister dissapeared to confront her demons and start a new life. She begins receiving things that could be from her sister or something more sinister.
This is one of her more interesting books--the characters are fairly interesting and likeable.
Sixteen years ago sisters Jenna and Amanda Kirk disappeared. Days later, Jenna was found wandering around alone with no memory of what had happened and no knowledge of her sister's fate. Now desperate to uncover the truth about that night, Jenna returns to Stone County.

A taut suspenseful mystery with romance rather than graphic sex. Fiften years ago Jenna and her sister Mandi were kidnapped. Jenna was released near her home but Mandi was never found. Now the past and present come together when Jenna returns home. Very good read.
