This was the book that finally taught me how to crochet correctly. I am a very visual-oriented person, and I dislike text-only crochet patterns and instruction. I found this book very easy to follow, with diagrams on all the basic and some of the not-so-basic stitches. There is a great tutorial on tunisian crochet/afghan stitch as well. The patterns in this book are CUTE, I've made the Sweet-Pea Shawl, the 'Lil Monkey Blanket, and the Skullholders, all of which turned out exactly like the instructions said, and were easy!

I didn't use this book to teach myself to crochet. I'd already learned that from "1-2-3 Crochet: Beginner's Guide." But I did find some cool, simple projects to improve my skills, and this book first taught me tapestry crochet.

The beginning instructions in this book are great but the patterns range from some being impeccably written to others that are a little sloppy. If you are middle-aged (like me), some of the projects are quite silly and juvenile looking but there are a few here that any woman can wear proudly. I do find it strange that the author, who is not in the 18-35 demographic, is writing a book that caters to that population specifically. Well, whatever makes her a few bucks, I guess. She's kinda goofy because she tries a little too hard to be on the edge but she definitely knows her stitching and that's what counts! Oh, and every crocheter should know how to make a doily. Just a note for all of you crafty young women: men are quite impressed by doilies, especially if they watch you making it.
What's wrong with your grandmother's doilies? My grandmother's are treasured.
