Be Still My Soul by Faith Blum is the first book in the Mysteries of the West series and the first of her novels I've read. It's unique in several ways:

- both primary character are male
- one primary character is a reformed thief
- illustration of friendship among young men
- romance is incidental to the plot

There's much going on in less than 200 pages (4-hour audiobook) so the action far outweighs the character development. While the pacing was rather uneven and the dialog sometimes felt unnatural, I continued reading because I was interested in the plot. The ending sets the stage for future book(s) in the series.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Brantley Brumley. While it was good to have a young male voice represent a young male character, the narration was stiff and monotone in delivery, and a few words were mispronounced.

I was provided complimentary access to the audiobook and chose to write this review; all opinions are my own.
