Lunar New Year Swap

Who would like to join me in this first swap of 2024, a fun little Lunar (or Chinese) New Year swap?

The Lunar New Year in 2024 begins on February 10th. We´ll be ushering in the Year of the Dragon (which just happens to be my own 'sign.') I live in a place where Lunar New Year is not celebrated, acknowledged, or even known much about, so I've decided to create my own festivities, and I hope you´ll join in regardless of your own sign or ethnic identity.

You´ll be assigned one partner. Get together 2 or 3 different Lunar New Year-related items to send to that person. Some examples of what to include might be: a beautiful red envelope for the occasion, a sheet of stickers, a bookmark, a garland or paper lantern, some temporary tattoos, a pendant or pair of earrings, etc. Items can be store bought or nicely handmade; most will probably be red and/gold, and all should be related to this holiday in some way.

If that sounds like fun, send me your name and mailing address by Jan. 12th. I´ll let everyone know who their partner is by Jan. 14th. Please mail your items to your partner by Jan. 22 to allow ample time for them to travel through the mail and still arrive in plenty of time to be enjoyed by the recipient. (I will also send each participant the entire list of participants in the swap, in case anyone wishes to send to additional people; however, this is NOT at all expected.)

Since this is about Lunar New Year and not personal preferences, you don´t need to know who your partner is before you start getting your items; inf fact, you can absolutely go ahead and search for items for this exchange as soon as you sign up (or before!), either online or'if you are lucky enough to live someplace where this is possible'in brick and mortar stores.

Package to Shirley is in the PO today, but there's no telling when it will leave Texas.  Sadly, mail in this part of the state is moving slowly, due to a new sorting station being added to the mix before it was really ready to go.

Thanks to Robin for the informational and game packets for the Lunar New Year.  Not sure how much will be new info for me because with my practice of tai chi, they have taught us a lot about Chinese culture and celebrations over the years. Before covid, there used to be a lot of 'parties' offered for the Lunar New Year, we even had a massive Chinese dragon performance when the grand opening of the new National Tai Chi center was held in Dundedin (on the Gulf coast north of Clearwater)

My package arrived from Cheryl! I hope you can see the photo. She sent me such a great box of goodies. A chinese zodiac placemat (I think I'm going to hang this up somewhere), an adorable dragon bookmark, a fun little sticker puzzle, a pair of Chinese lanterns, and a dragon door frame decoration - how cool! I'm going to have so much fun decorating with these. She also sent me a nice note. Thank you so much, Cheryl, I am so grateful for your thoughtfulness and friendship.

Melissa's package says it was delivered on the 20th but maybe she hasn't had a chance to get to her PO box yet.

Got a wonderful package of goodies today from Melissa.......a nice note on a dragon postcard with an adorable mini dancing dragon to assemble, a dragon laptop sticker, and a dragon charm in a little red dragon envelope. 

Lynn's package was mailed today. Yvette, what a cheerful, festive package Cheryl put together. I loved seeing those festive bright colors that lifted my mood on a dim and drab gray sky day.
