Oh, wow! It Started with a Scandal is such a great read! Picture this: Lord Phillipe Lavay, a complicated hero, a displaced French royal recovering from a savage attack who is sexy as all heck--when he wasn't being such a grouchy bear. His recently hired housekeeper, Elise Fountain, was a delightful heroine, determined, resourceful, and a woman who easily made up little ditties on a dime. She was also a single mother. I liked them instantly.

Phillipe and Elise suffered past circumstances that permanently affected their lives, and although they came from different social stations, their similarly painful experiences quickly bonded them emotionally. Despite not rubbing well together at first, their rocky dance felt natural and real. In addition, their attraction was hard to ignore or deny. Her ultimate seduction was a real treat with it being lusty, tender, and oh so sigh worthy. A double treat was witnessing both sides because Phillipe was seduced as well. Those sexy bits are scenes to savor!

I love it when a character experiences a major realization that changes how to think or what to believe. This forges stronger individuals, especially when in the process one realizes that a sacrifice no longer feels like a second-rate compromise--all because of loving someone, as in Phillipe's situation. I find these character shifts very powerful, and they stir my romantic soul.

So, treat yourself. Grab a copy and settle into your favorite reading spot with this enjoyable and very moving continuation of the Pennyroyal Green series. 4.5 stars.
