First, this book, the previous book in this series and the following book are actually a trilogy of one long action within the series. So you are warned!
Second, while this is good military sci-fi, the same situation keeps occurring again and again in almost every book in the series. An incompetent Earth Army general commands and the Marines save his ass every time. Fortunately, the authors are starting to introduce 'good' Amry generals, probably because one of the authors was in the Army.
Finally, I am a little amazed at how good all the Marines seem to be in fighting other humans and the aliens. One Marine seems to be worth 100+ of the enemy, a concept I find difficult to grasp, and I served four years of active duty with the Big, Bright Pleasure Machine myself.
Frankly, this series is basically good military sci-fi "space opera." Which is okay with me, as I enjoy this kind of book as a relaxation from more serious books I read.
