It is rare when sci-fi opens a new vista,
this book has opened a new branch in the
Sci-fi tree. It is well laid out interesting
and enjoyable to read, with loads of depth
to the characters my only regret was the book wasn't longer.

But its a trilogy so I can go get more in the next book.

Give Peter Watts a try you'll surely be glad you did.

Wow. Incredibly original, dark, intellectual, great story... I'm a pretty smart guy, I've got two professional degrees (JD & MD) and I still found myself reading this book with Wikipedia and Google running to look up things I had never heard of or had forgotten years ago. Very smart book. The author's web site is well done -- http://www.rifters.com/index.htm -- and all of his books can be read online (for free!), but you're going to want the book, so you can sit down with it and hold it in your hands.

There are 2 great quotes on his website that I like: "Watts packs in enough tantalizing ideas for a score of novels while spinning new twists on every cutting-edge genre motif" and ""Whenever I find my will to live becoming too strong, I read Peter Watts."
