Despite all the hype about the first Star Wars/horror novel, it was just pretty ok. I will say, the author handles the horror parts very well and there's appropriate gruesomeness throughout the story.

However, it's not much of a SW story, more like a zombie story that happens to be in the SW galaxy. If you removed the two movie characters that make an appearance, you've got a zombie story on a spaceship. There's an attempt to develop the other "main" characters but really they're more like slasher film fodder than characters you get invested in. I honestly didn't care what happened to them and since you know the movie characters are going to survive, there's not a whole lot of tension. As I said earlier though, Schreiber is good at the horror bits and if nothing else I will check out his other horror books after reading this.

If you're a Star Wars fan that also happens to like zombies, then I would recommend this for you.

No fate could be more terrifying than being trapped in deep space. Unless there's something unknown out there with you.

I am a fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, but I don't usually read the book spin-offs. This one struck my fancy because it is a zombie story set in the Star Wars universe. I thought it would be fun, and it was. Han Solo and Chewbacca are included in the mayhem, but I won't give away the ending. If you enjoy zombie stories and enjoy Star Wars/space/futuristic stories, then check this book out. I think you will enjoy it.
