From the Dust Jacket:

A new kind of decorating book, which reveals for use in your own home the techniques and tricks used by professionals to create eye-catching, crowd-stopping model rooms. With one simple tool - the staple gun - the author shows how you can duplicate the spectacular results of display artists and scenic and interior designers. Instructions accompanied by clear illustrations and how-to photos enable the amateur to decorate an entire house with professional results. Since the methods shown eliminate the need for sewing and a sewing machine, the book has value for a wide audience.

Here are techniques for using staplers to cover walls and ceilings with fabric and to make wall hangings, draperies, shades, and supergraphic panels. Included are dozens of ways sheets can be used for inexpensive but dramatic effect. This book shows how to transform furniture discards into treasures and how to turn ordinary crates into seating modules. You learn how to do your own upholstering, starting with the simple job of covering a chair seat and progressing to more challenging projects such as the total upholstering of a wooden chair. Several ways to treat parsons tables and cubes are shown. Included are imaginative window coverings that are both attractive and energy saving. For accessories, the author demonstrates how to staple boxes, picture frames, and screens. For screens, learn how to make rare "old world" fabric hinges. From ceiling to floor, from window to bed - every aspect of a well-dressed home is covered.

Along with the how-to photos are more than 100 other photos in both color and black and white - examples of finished rooms showing classic styles as well as current trends. These rooms incorporate the techniques described or serve as inspiration for what can be accomplished using the simplified methods in the book. STAPLE IT! also contains a complete explanation of supplies and materials, handy-size charts, tables for figuring yardage requirements, working with pattern repeats, and much more.

The author, Iris Ihde Frey, is a designer with a background in the fine arts as well as in practical design application. She has studied at the Art Institute of Chicago School and the Art Students League, and has been an art teacher. In writing the book she has drawn from her experience in working for such trendsetters as Bloomingdale's , Lord & Taylor, and NBC Television. Her writings, crafs and illustrations have appeared in diverse publications including the New York Times, McCall's, and Boating magazine; her paintings have been exhibited in museums on the eastern seaboard.
