Historical novel about the mysterious staircase in the Chapel of Loretto. Well-Rated. Good Book!
It's a children's book, but I loved it. It draws you into their world, into the eyes of a little girl. The setting is totally believeable, and even though Rinaldi places a story into a true historical setting, you don't get lost in too many descriptions, yet you have a clear mental picture of the setting. Great book for all ages
Rinaldi writes fiction from history, so this is a historical novel, and it's very well done. She is an expert is this type of fiction, I believe, having done several in this genre. This story of a young girl who matures through losing a family member and then living in a girls' Catholic boarding school is well-written and enduring. I recommend it to young adults and adults.
This is a wonderful story for both young adults & adults woven around a true story of a staircase in a Chapel in Santa Fe that came be seen to this day. I enjoyed the make-believe story of a 13 year old girl in difficult circumstances during the 1870s & how she was able to embrace & over-come those difficulties. Woven into her story is the true story of this miraculous staircase. I highly recommend this book.
