The book is well written with great imagery and attention to detail. Unfortunately, the story progresses very slowly and the subject matter--a weekend in the life of a recently divorced sportswriter--is less than compelling.

This has been described as a compelling novel, and I believe this is true. A story about a person who happens to be a sportwriter, but more about getting through the mundane happenings of everyday life.

Ford's mastery of prose makes this insightful tale a most wonderful read. He connects all of us to each other. You will never regret reading Richard Ford--truly a man of all seasons.
