This book, by a Canadian author, combines an old mystery from Chinon Castle in France with a modern mystery from World War II. A woman travels to France and becomes involved in mystery, history, and romance! A great read for men and women. I recommend all of Susanna Kearsley's books. They are enjoyable and well written.

I love Susanna Kearsley's writing. Her settings are so charmingly and lovingly described that I always feel as if I've spent time there. After reading The Splendor Falls, I really want to see Chignon. Seriously.

Kearsley seems to be the current day Mary Stewart (Stewart's male/female dynamics are so un-PC and outdated now). Her books are gothic and wonderfully romantic and they always leave me with a satisfied smile.

Mystery and history combine to form a compulsively readable, suspenseful thriller.
