SARS, Zika, Ebola, West Nile, Lyme disease, AIDS and next year's influenza.... If you have ever wondered where they come from and why, and what they might do if not controlled, then you need to read this book.

All these diseases, as well as others, are the reason governments and private institutions fund numerous health and disease research organizations across the world.

The author does an amazing job. He takes complicated medical theories and investigations and makes them not just palatable, but actually entertaining reading for the average person. Plus, he often inserts humor into the text.

And, near the end of the book, he gives you the reason why you should read "Spillover."

"The purpose of this book is not to make you more worried. The purpose of this book is to make you more smart."

It is because humans can be smart that the human race is still abundantly plentiful on this planet. If we stop being smart, then "The Next Big One" will kill tens, if not hundreds or thousands, of millions of our species.
