I gave up on this book. Probably it's me, and summer, and wanting my books at the moment to be accessible and enjoyable....but I just didn't want to work that hard to achieve that enjoyment.

I believe those who have given this book stellar reviews. At some other time I might have been one of them. Too busy now, though!

The reviews for this book were so high when it came out that it has been on my list for years. I had trouble finishing it though. Had the author avoided all the tangential material (references, reminiscing) and focused on the story it might have worked. Instead, it was, at times, difficult to get through, and the ending seemed completely disconnected from the rest of the book. A unique approach to writing that I feel did not work well at all.

Tedious from time to time but wonderful last few chapters. Almost always engaging and very cleverly done.
