A beautifully written book but very sad.
Much of it takes place in a Japanese prison camp in WW II.
There is a lot of brutality and also a lot of very thoughtfully written material on the effects of violence on a good man.

I'm amazed at how perceptively Lehrer elucidated the many sides of important questions. Some of the action was almost too brutal for me - although it definitely is realistic.
