LOVE Jeffrey Deaver-he's a master!I really enjoyed this book. It's about a crazy guy out for revenge who kidnaps this lawyers daughter and everything they go through to get her back/escape.It's complicated.
This is an excellent, tightly told, story with complex twists and turns that definitely keeps you glued to the pages. The story had me deeply engrossed from the start and the ending was completely satisfying.
Aaron Matthews is a man with a gift: he can talk anyone into doing anything. As a psychologist, he used that talent to help people. Now he's using it against one man in a deadly scheme of revenge. A spine-tingling novel of psychological manipulation.
If you like psychological thrillers, this book is a great read! This devious and manipulative bad guy makes for good suspense.
Matthews is a man with a gift: he can talk anyone into any thing. He used this talent for good as a psychologist, but is now using it for revenge.
Jeffery deavers creates strong characters and developes plots that pull you to places you normally would refuse to go. Very compelling story teller.

Deaver is one of my favorite authors. This book is an earlier one so not as intense as his later books. But I still enjoyed it.
Aaron Matthews is a man with a gift: he can talk anyone into doing almost anything. As a psychologist he used that talent to help people. Now he's using it against one man in a deadly scheme of revenge.
GREAT BOOK

Not a "5 star" but great reading none the less. You'll be saying to yourself: "wow, I didn't see that coming!"
As always with Deaver, great story.
Before he launched his praised and popular series about quadriplegic criminologist Lincoln Rhyme (The Empty Chair, etc.), Deaver made his reputation with tricky, stylish thrillers such as Praying for Sleep and Manhattan Is My Beat. This slick novel is a throwback to those books and Deaver's first wholly outside the Rhyme universe since A Maiden's Grave. The basic plot is simple. An insane but intensely charismatic psychiatrist, Aaron Matthews, for reasons revealed only near book's end, kidnaps his patient, alienated Megan McCall, the young adult daughter of former Virginia prosecutor Tate Collier, and imprisons her in an abandoned mental institution. Tate and his estranged wife go looking for Megan and enlist the cops in their search. Much violence ensues. Deaver's characters are workable but not deep, though there's some psychological probing along the fault lines dividing Tate, his wife and their daughter. The novel's primary appeal arises from its thrills, which are plentiful. Like James Patterson, Deaver writes dialogue-driven prose, in short, strong sentences and paragraphs that demand little from the reader while seizing attention to the max. Tate and his wife are forgettable heroes, but Deaver tells some of the story from feisty Megan's gripping POV, as she fights back against her captorAone dandy villain who delights in conning others through disguise and misdirection, allowing for plenty of plot curves. This isn't Deaver's most accomplished novel but it's high-energy entertainment.

As always a great read. Deaver is an excellent writer, this books is gruesome, has twists. Keeps you guessing. I had to finish it in one night.
I thought this would be the beginning of a new series, as it's sort of a spin off from the Lincoln Rhyme series, he makes a brief appearance, but this book is great all on it's own.
Aaron Matthews, a former psychologist with a knack for talking people into things, is out to destroy the life of Tate Collier. Collier is a trial lawyer who prosecuted Matthew's son for a killing when he was a teen. A short time after the teen went into prison, he was brutally murdered. Matthews wants to take the life of Collier's teenage daughter in revenge. He does this by kidnapping the daughter after a counseling session and makes it look like a runaway. She's taken to an old abandoned mental hospital where Matthews plans on murdering her. Collier suspects that his daughter's disappearance is not what it seems, but everyone who can provide answers is either dying or being framed for other crimes. The story is a race to see if Collier can figure out who is doing all this, and to find his daughter before harm comes to her.
Very, very scary. He made my heart beat faster and I couldn't read this one right before bed. Great writer. You should read it.
Jeffery Deaver does it again - this book is a fast read, a gripping story that keeps you on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next.
"Speaking In Tongues is like Cape Fear on steroids. It's a supra-nasty, but unquestionably suspenseful, tale of revenge...The villian is smooth and beguiling." -Los Angeles Times
