I'll start by saying this is usually not a book I would read, but it was very good. Told from the perspective of a young Nazi SS soldier - assistant to a high ranking Colonel. I at first this was going to be a war novel but it's SO much more. Loss of innocence, love, honor, betrayal, respect all rolled into a WWII setting. Draws you in and keeps you right there with the characters.
