The drug life in and around Wash. D.C.. A very well written story of the lives of dealers and the men who work against them. It catches reality.

Pelecanos writes convincingly and very well about a black detective in DC (at least to a white guy).

The Derek Strange character is a very different "gumshoe" and he makes the series very interesting. Avery good read.
George Pelecanos keeps the reader entertained at all times. His stories are not always without tragedy, as Soul Circus demonstrates. I look forward to reading his next one.

I really enjoyed this Pelecanos crime action novel set in Washington D.C. It's the first I have read with Derek Strange, PI, as the main character. This may be where Nick Stefanos first gets mentioned.
There is a fair amount of D.C. street language and drug dealing behavior, sometimes very graphic. Pelecanos does not pull punches. But you do get to know a side of D.C. that you won't see in the AAA Guide. And you might know what sections to avoid getting lost in when visiting.
