One day a vampire comes into the bar where telepathic waitress Sookie Stackhouse works. Her life is never the same. She ends up falling for him, and becomes involved in his supernatural world. While this premise sounds a little out there, the books are well written, smart, and funny. I got into this series because of the tv show, and quickly fell in love with Sookie. Charlaine Harris gives Sookie a simple, straight forward, honest tone. You cannot help but root for Sookie as she encounters vampires, werewolves, fairies, and shapeshifters. Part of the appeal of this series is that Harris strips the drama and mystique away from vampires and company and treat them like normal occurrences. While the supernatural mysteries are interesting, it is Sookie's love life that keeps me coming back for more. So I recommend buying the whole box set and spending some time with Sookie.
