Nobody writes about South Texas the way Elmer Kelton does. In this book, Texas is still a Spanish province. Tennesseean Mordecai Lewis and his two sons ride into this murderous country. Mordecai dies, leaving his boys with enemies out for their skin both in Texas and Tennessee.
