I was totally invested in each character from page one.
They made a tragic mistake.
They were fifteen years old.
They lived in an upscale suburb.
Sasha was beautiful and spoiled whose parents were never around.
Ally was chubby and unhappy who lost a beloved sister to CF.
David thought he may be gay and his father called him names.
Julian's father owned the company who built the high-end mini-mansions.
They kept their secret for twenty years.

The past came crashing down as they meet again at a funeral, no longer high school teenagers, but troubled adults whose well kept secret spiraled out of control.

I was immersed in this book from the first; couldn't bear to put it down. It was sad and disturbing and brought tears to my eyes. However Ms. Scottoline probably wanted an OMG twist ending I felt was totally unnecessary; thus four stars instead of five.

A stand alone novel with great consequences. This book is unfortunately an incident that has happened and will happen again. The main character has to face up to the consequences of her actions when she was a teenager and has kept that secret for 20 years. Her friends are unwilling to do so and so the story goes. I really prefer the Rosato novels. Her stand alone novels are modern and up to date, but this one was not my cup of tea.
