Debbie is one of my favorite authors. I always care about the characters in her books, which makes them a joy to read for me. This story was a "read in one sitting type of story" filled with tension, I recommend it hardily.

Umm, delish! Two different women fall in love with two different mercenaries. Linette is a widow of two years who falls in love with Cain, the leader of The Deliverance Company. Francine, a physical therapist, falls for her patient who has been severely wounded on a mission. The story has enough romance and intrigue to keep you captured until the very end.

This was a book that had me at the beginning. There was a generous amount of different characters that gave a little of something for anyone reading it. Whether it was the shy and demure, and still suffering the tragic loss of her husband, Linette.......or the gruff and very capable mercenary Cain, the leader of Deliverance Company........or his sidekick and best friend Mallory who was first to do the unforgivable for a mercenary, to fall in love...............to the amazonian, very determined, very outgoing Francine.....the characters reach out and grab your heart with a grip that is firm and but yet very loving. I found myself picturing myself as Cain, a man who wanted to show a tough exterior to the world while never realizing that there was a tender side hiding underneath.......all it would take is for the right woman to bring it out. A line from the back of the book said it all for him......"But then he saw her, and the sight of her took his breath away." A book with a lot of tender moments, some irritating times, and some tragedies that came that had me not wanting to finish the book as I was afraid of the end, it is definitely a book that is well worth reading. The first of three (so far) Deliverance Company books.

I was quite surprised by the setting of this book; a real departure for Macomber. It was well written and I enjoyed both stories woven in the book. I can't wait to read the other two books in the Deliverance Company: Sooner or Later and Moon Over Water.

What can I say that has not been said about a Debbie Macomber book? This book is about the Deliverance Company set of stories that explorers people putting themselves at risk for the sake of danger and fortune. In true fashion, Debbie describes relationships in love and war. She describes the actions of war with passion and depth. She describes love with the same passion and depth.

This book was easy to read and hard to step away from. It had a lot of adventure and a storyline that did not disappoint.

Cain McClellan--soldier of fortune. Cain has chosen his lifestyle. He thrived on the challenge. No drug, he told himself could produce the physical or emotional high of a successfully completed mission. No drug and no woman. Then why was he standing on a cold pier like a lovelorn teenager... hoping for a glimpse of Linette Collins?

From back cover:
Opposites Attract. Cain had chosen his lifestyle. He thrived on the challenge. No drug, he told himself, could produce the physical or emotional high of a successfully completed mission. No drug and no woman.
Then why was he standing on a cold San Francisco pier like a lovelorn teenager, hoping for a glimpse of Linette Collins? And then he saw her. For a moment it felt as if someone had hit him against the back of his head. He went stock-still. She stood in line at a fish and chips place. The wind whipped her hair about her face and she lifted a finger to wrap a thick strand of dark hair behind her ear.
The smart thing to do was to turn around, and walk away as fast as his feet would carry him. He'd gotten what he wanted. One last look at her. His curiosity should be satisfied. But even as his mind formulated the thought, Cain knew that just seeing Linette again wasn't enough.
