As a huge Dean Koontz fan, I loved this book. The story follows a man who loses his family in a plane crash that killed everyone on board. The man later finds out there is a sole survivor, who has many secrets she is keeping. This book has the usual heavy character development found in Koontz's novels. A very good book.

Crime reporter Joe Carpenter lost his wife and two young daughters in the crash of Flight 353. Aching from his loss, Joe is unable to work, or to think...unable to do anything but grieve, and wait for his own death. Then Joe meets Rose, a woman who claims to be the crash's sole survivor. But before Joe can probe further, the elusive Rose slips away, and Joe is left with haunting, terrifying questions: if Rose lived through the crash, is it possible his family could have survived it too? Did the authorities conspire to hide what really happened that night? Will his search for the truth shatter him like nothing has before, and force him to question everything he thinks he knows about life and death?

This was a very interesting book - well, an interesting premise. The most interesting and saddest parts - the psychic test study kids - were the most interesting parts and there wasn't as much about them as I would have liked. And, really, the end was a little unsatisfying as nothing was done about those kids. And the side-story that turned into the main one, about religion, was a disappointment and a surprise to come from an author like him. Still, his books are fun reads and he is a good writer, this just isn't his best.

he Sole Survivor was my first Dean Koontz book. Can't say I'm a big fan of his style. The book started off really slow. By the time I felt like I had gotten to something interesting, I had already gotten through a quarter of the book. In the middle half of the book, the plot unfolded at a snail's pace while the auther filled the pages with irrelevant details. The pace picked up in the last quarter of the book, and the story got more interesting as it got into paranormal activities. I wish I didn't have to skip over so many boring paragraphs though to get there.
