  A soliders past and future
By Paula H.

The water ran red with the blood of his comrades
The bodies floated in the surf and with each new wave brought more bodies,
Every where he looked there was bodies, most of them just boys, like himself
The sounds of gunfire and shelling were all around him,
The wounded were crying out out, some for help, some for those back home and some for God's mercy.

With the cries of the wounded ringing in his ears
He awoke with a scream in his throat.
It took a moment for him to realize where he was.
Unwilling to go back to sleep he walked down the hall.
Never looking at the faces smiling back at him.

Those faces haunted him in his dreams.
They kept guard as he made his way.
He remembered the night before
When they had shared stories of home, smokes and booze

Headlights suddenly splashed across the window.
He dropped to the floor
The car doors sounded like expolsions as their occupunats
Doubled timed it up the sidewalk.
They were home from a victorious football game.
"They" were Lt James 17 and Seargent Gary 16
Well thats what he called them. Since that's who they were named after.
Their namesakes smiled from the wall above
Keeping guard over all who entered

He picked himself up off the floor and smiled
As he opened the door he thought to himself
"Nothing like the sound of youth to help me overcome The pain of a past I can't escape."

This is a beautiful story and is mindful of all those serving to keep us free. My 18yo granddaughter joined so we might live in a free country and with the war around us I pray she will not have to endure what this manor woman did. Pray for our soldiers and God Bless America!!
