A serial killer is going after high-profile executives in the managed care industry. This thriller is about HMOs and the medical proffessions on going opposition to them. Well written with many "twists and turns." Many of the HMO horror stories the author highlights in this book are real!

Very good book....At the headquarters of Boston's Eastern Quality Health, the powerful CEO is brutally murdered. She's not the first to die-nor the last. A serial killer is on the loose and the victims have one thing in common: all are high-profile execs in the managed care industry.

Since Health Care Reform is a hot topic today, this book (although fiction) really makes the reader consider what has happened to health care in this country since the Vietnam era. A crime drama and statement about the crisis caused by HMO's ruling the industry. I could not put it down.

FROM THE PUBLISHER
"At the headquarters of Boston's Eastern Quality Health, the wealthy and powerful CEO is brutally murdered. She's not the first to die - or the last. A vicious serial killer is on the loose and the victims have one thing in common - they are all high-profile executives in the managed care industry." "Dr. Will Grant is an overworked and highly dedicated surgeon. He has experienced firsthand the outrages of a system that cares more about the bottom line than about life-and-death issues of patients. As a member of the Hippocrates Society, Will seeks to reclaim the profession of medicine from the hundreds of companies profiting wildly by controlling the decisions that affect the delivery of care. But the doctor's determination has attracted a dangerous zealot who will stop at nothing to make Will his ally. Soon Will is both a suspect and a victim, a pawn in a deadly endgame. Then, in one horrible moment, Will's professional and personal worlds are destroyed and his very life placed in peril." Rookie detective Patty Moriarity is in danger of being removed from her first big case - the managed care killings. To save her career, she has no choice but to risk trusting Will, knowing he may well be the killer she is hunting. Together they have little to go on except the knowledge that the assassin is vengeful, cunning, ruthless - and may not be working alone. That - and a cryptic message that grows longer with each murder: a message Grant and Moriarty must decipher if they don't want to be the next victims.

Truly excellent. Palmer deals with the HMO issue(s) using a series of murders and an unjustly accused surgeon to move the plot along. It's such a good read, and you'll learn a lot about the world of medicine as you ejoy the plot.

This was fun, with a terrific hero in Will Grant. A very entertaining medical mystery thriller that raises a lot of ethical questions. My first Michael Palmer, but not my last!

Doctors are standing up to the HMO's. One doctor goes into the OR high on drugs and contaminates a patient or was he high? Is someone setting him up as he claims. Very good book

This was the June 2011 pick in my online book club, The Reading Cove. I give it a C.

The story began with intrigue but quickly descended into a nonsensical mish-mash of gun-wielding healthcare executives, doctors, police, gang members...and even patients! It seems everyone had a gun in this book, LOL.

The one plus would be the commentary on the state of health care in the United States, greed...and how, as a country, we can do so much better for ALL of our citizens. Health care shouldn't be a long-standing oxymoron.
