When Lori Shepard's friend persuades her to break her post-Christmas funk with a hike, she figures on a pleasant five hours walking through the beautiful English countryside, possibly seeing lambs gamboling in a field. But she takes a wrong turn and England is hit by the blizzard of the century. Lori finds herself snowbound in a strange house deserted except for an ancient caretaker with a shotgun, plus two fellow Americans who were also caught by the unexpected blizzard. Thank goodness Lori brought along Reginald and Aunt Dimity.

The odds of three Americans being caught by snow in one out of the way house don't seem high and Lori is suspicious. She gets even more suspicious when the caretaker tells the tragic story of the late owner of the home and her hatred for anything American. She follows Aunt Dimity's advice and starts a treasure hunt for whatever the building's owner had stolen. But Lori isn't the only person hunting and her suspicions quickly turn to Wendy the long distance hiker who just happens to have a crowbar in her pack. And, what about Jamie?

This is a light fun mystery. Aunt Dimity serves up hints for both Lori and the reader. Wendy and Jamie, along with Catchpole the caretaker are interesting and well developed characters.

Lori has an unfortunate habit of being terribly attracted to one of the suspects in each of the Dimity mysteries and this is no exception. Jamie is exactly the tall handsome and intelligent type that gets Lori going, husband and children not-withstanding. In this book, Lori's little weakness (which she suppresses naturally) adds rather than detracting from the narrative.

Fans of light English set cozies will definitely want to grab this one.

Lori with the blues? Well, that will never last in an Aunt Dimity book, will it?

In no time at all, the twists and turns of this adventure take away any blues Lori (or you) may have had.

Lori's attractions are always interesting and fun to see how the author will handle.

This series is so much fun to read. May they never end!
