Usually I enjoy Donald Barthelme's writing, but this was a little too weird for me. The writing was fractured - a mix between stream-of-consciousness and seemingly-drug-induced observations. It's not so much a modern-day fairy tale as it is a woman and her roommates and flashes of seconds in their home.

I suggest Donald Barthelme's short stories instead, most especially, "Some of Us Had Been Threatening Our Friend Colby." He's brilliant with satire and dark humor.
