I read this after stumbling across a movie by the same title starring Barry Pepper. The film was incredibly moving. The movie was based on this book...well actually one particular short story from this collection called Walk Well, My Brother. This entire book -- short stories about the people of the "savage" arctic -- is wonderful. The author obviously has great knowledge and respect for the people of the far north. I think everyone should read this! And the movie is one to watch also.
