Loved this audio. They say the book is always better than the movie. In this case the audio is so much better than the movie! Movie was very dissapointing but loved the audio. This goes to show how close an audio comes to actually reading the book. Very interesting culture, the Chinese and Japan as well.

A beautiful historical fictional story of two women who are lifelong friends designed by a matchmaker, to help raise the status of these women in a time of repression of women. These two women are so matched in many ways at the same time they are complete opposites in status. You truly become involved in the lives of these women and their surrounding family members. You learn about status, life and abuse in these arranged marriages. I totally enjoyed this story, and it made me sad when it ended. Read it and you will understand bonds and how they can be broken.
