In 1989, An American family of 3 goes into China to teach, but they are really missionaries who hope to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to those living under communist government there, specifically their own students.

This book explains what the family endures while in China and what life is like on a regular basis for the people there. I loved reading how bold they were for teaching about Jesus to others and how important it was to help those around them understand how hard it would be for them to make the decision to have Jesus become a part of their lives.

The story leads up to the events of the Tienanmen Square massacre, though they themselves were not in Beijing during the massacre, it was because of what happened that causes them to have to leave the country when they were hoping to stay a few weeks longer, as was their plan originally before the events happened. However, since they teach at a school, much of who they interacted with would be affected or were probably there. I learned a lot more about why the massacre happened through reading this story. I had never really known before.

I soak up missionary stories in general, and this one was definitely grand!
