Most books that are about parent/child relationships usually revolve around mother's and daughter's so this particular book is a rarity. Smoking Poppy is about a father/daughter relationship as the focal point but there are just as many if not more strenuous and tedious moments with the son as well. This book was completely absorbing and terrifically written a perfect insight on a father's little known feelings.

Wow, this book went places I never would have imagined. An exceptional read about love, friendship and going to lengths you would never have imagined for both. In the end, it is so emotionally gratifying.
I usually give a book 40 pages of reading before I say, this ones not for me. These 40 pages were a real chore to stick with. This British author did nothing for this American reader. I could not finish it.
