The publisher of this book is a colleague of mine and she sent this to me over the Summer to read. It recently worked it's way up my reading list. The cover kept catching my eye (always a good thing when I'm looking at the wall of 300+ books that are waiting on me to read them!). So I relented and grabbed it.
It's an interesting read. It started out VERY slow for me. I usually read a book in just a few days, but it took me that long to get through the first few chapters. The pace quickly picked up - which was a good thing - I was close to giving up and trying again later.
The premise is interesting, the ending was disappointing (I'm sorry, I didn't buy it), the text was filled with a good bit of medical jargon that I had to either skip over or read a few times to even begin to grasp it (I'm a bookkeeper, darn it!), he's a very flat author. I found his ending of chapters to be humorous at times. Like the author wasn't sure when to end it, so he'd add a few more words. Or maybe just one. Like this. Ya know?
BUT afterwards, I went to his website, and I see this is apparently his first fiction book or near to it. So, I forgive him ;) He is working on a sequel and I'm sure I'll pick that one up - which, for me, is an amazing thing. There are very few sequels I will actually keep an eye out for.
Overall, a decent read. I finished the last half of it in one sitting, it drew me in and I got used to the writing style.
I am interested to find out if his writing has developed with a subsequent book!
(this coming from someone who hires someone to do her writing - I'm NOT a writer) ;)
Anyway, worth a read - give it a whirl!
