Excellent mystery by Francis. Although I don't know much about horse racing, it was easy to pickup the lingo. I highly recommend this one.

One of Dick Francis' earlier novels - same mixture of horse racing and murder mystery - very engaging, "real" feeling characters - fast-paced and exciting. This time, Francis' protagonist is a young but capable chief investigator for the British Jockey Club, who goes to Norway to solve the disappearance of a British jockey. A great read!

Set in a Norwegian background, this is a very good Dick Francis, written in 1973.

Good mystery, kept me guessing. Jockey disappears before a big race, leaving a pregnant wife. Inspector Cleveland is trying to find him. Mostly set in Norway.

(From the back of the book)

Champion jockey Robert Sherman has disappeared right before he was to race in the National, which he was sure to winand right before his wife was to give birth.

A coincidence? Perhaps.

But British Investigator David Cleveland doesnt believe in coincidence he believes someone made Sherman disappear for a reason. Unfortunately, with every answer he gets, the body count rises. And if hes not careful, the next body just might be his own
