The Skye O'Malley series is what got me hooked on Bertrice Small. I've been a faithful fan of hers since I read her first book and have been reading her books for over 20 years now. She is the BEST historical romance writer bar none! You will LOVE this book and all her others I'm sure. A DEFINITE READ, DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!! After you finish it get the rest of the Skye O'Malley series, you will NOT be dissapointed!

One of her best! Loved the whole series. Warning though: she has a lot of sex in her books. Only thing I didn't like.

I've read this book and it is a must for those who love history with a love that makes you wheep.

Skye O'Malley suffers abuse at the hands of her first husband, Dom O'Flattery only to find love in the arms of her father's guest, Nial Burke. Skye unwillingly marries Dom and suffers abuse at his hands as well as a rape at the hands of Dom and his sister Claire.

An accident off the coast of Algeries forces Skye into a state of 'virginal' belief. She finds love in the arms of her mighty harem master, Khalid, only to lose him to death at the hands of a jealous rival.

Skye returns to England after an obscessed Jamil attempts to claim her for his very own. In England, Skye meets and becomes a sometime friend to Queen Elizabeth I. While a lady of the court, she meets and falls in love with Geoffory Southwood...The Angel Earl.

Nial returns to the picture but Skye has no memory of him. He is married to the daughter of a small island lord's daughter who turns out to be the biggest whore in London.

A tramatic fight over the honor of Constanza, brings Skye's memory back as well as the birth of hers and Geof's child. Another birth later on brings happiness to the Southwood family only to turn into bitter misery when both Johnny and Geoffry are struck down in the same epidemic. Once more leaving Skye a widow.

When Skye appeals to the queen for aid in protecting her son Robin's inheritance... the queen plays dirty and sends her favorite play toy, Robert Dudley to act in her stead. Dudley makes his move on Skye and she becomes his unwilling mistress.

Because of this action, Skye declares war on the queen and finds several nights of passion in the arms of her dead husbands cousin, Adam. Elizabeth suspious of Skye's action when several of her ships bearing riches comes up missing, Skye is thrown into the tower.

It takes her loyal friends, Robert Small, Adam de Marisco, and even her former lover now turned husband, Nial Burke to prove her innocences.

Overall an excellent read and a beautful story. The First book in a 12 book series that is well worth the price to either buy or trade for those books.

Some of the scenes depict rape and may be difficult for some to get past, but you have to take into account the era in which the story is depicted.

There has never been a novel like Skye O'Malley.
Pure sensual delight and stirring intrigue! A timeless journey through the tantalizing pleasures of tender romance, exquisite passion, eternal love. Excellent reading.
There is a different cover on this book, but it is the same.

Historical romance, and for once, the WOMAN is the sea captain! She travels all over & basically plays her own damn tune, thank you. I loved this story, it's one of Small's best. You should know that there is a really small tear in the middle of the front cover about 1/2" wide, maybe. I've taped it up & the book is pretty much new otherwise, but it does have that defect.

My copy is the 1990 ed. 14th printing. Cover has a castle in the background with a couple standing in roses.
