Jax and Treena's story. Prequel to JUST FOR KICKS. Jax has to find his father's collectible baseball, which his father's widow has in her possession. He devises a plan to seduce the gold-digging floozy who ran through his father's fortune, and relieve her of the baseball which should have been his. Unfortunately, Treena is nothing like he supposes, and Jax gradually discovers that he has lied to the one woman he can love.

I enjoyed this book, but it was tense, rather than light hearted, because the hero has childhood problems to work through. I liked the sequel much better.

Light and steamy love story between a professional poker player and a showgirl. To rachet up the interest, the gambler is, unbeknownst to the dancer, her stepson. And he wants to retrieve a baseball that he felt should rightfully have belonged to him... and that he has already gambled away.

This was one of those books that made me want to scream at the main characters to tell the truth already!

I did like the characters Andersen created, including the older Mack and Ellen.

Andersen is a favorite of mine so I couldn't wait to read this newest novel. The cover in my opinion is really ugly, but the story was interesting.

Jackson Gallagher McCall, aka Jax Gallagher -- tournament poker pro, in a drunken pity fest gambles away a family heirloom autographed baseball to an Elvis impersonating Russian Mafioso -- say that fast three times. He soon discovers that the ball was not left to him in his fathers will but actually left to his step mom Treena McCall a 35 year old Las Vegas showgirl with polish roots from Pennsylvania

Assuming the Treena was a gold digging slut who married old men for their money, Jax sets out to seduce Treena and steal the ball back. Oh but of course in romance land, nothing is at it seems. Jax falls in love with her. Being your typical grown up man who still thinks like the insecure geek childhood prodigy he used to be, he doesn't tell her the truth. Treena discovers who he is and kicks the man to the curb with his precious ball in hand (the heirloom one in case you were wondering).

Will JAX survive losing her? Will his fingers and other body parts survive the Elvis dude? Read it and find out....

Now the man who wont the collectible is demanding his prize or else. The problem is, the ball is in the possession of his estranged father's widow - a flamboyant Las Veags showgirl. Jax intends to get it back, by any means available.

Professional gambler Jax Gallagher is sure that Las Vegas showgirl Treena McCall married his father for his money. Now he is going to have to get to know his young, widowed stepmother so he can retrieve a priceless baseball he recklessly bet in a high-stakes game with an Elvis-impersonating mobster. Treena McCall went through her husband's fortune to get him the best medical help when he was dying of cancer, only holding on to the baseball he said he wanted his son to have. Now she has no idea that Jax is that son. Soon, she is falling for Jax, and in spite of himself, he is falling for her. Sex, lies, a bad guy in white polyester, and a prized baseball add up nicely, while a delightful secondary romance featuring a buttoned-up, retired librarian who becomes a hot mama adds humor. Written with Andersen's signature sass and sizzle, this book will appeal to fans of Sandra Hill and Rachel Gibson.

Treena McCall has enough on her plate without being wined and dined by a ruthless gold digger. She's built a life for herself filled with good friends and hard work. But in Vegas as a dancer she meets all kinds and she knows better than to bet on love.

What a delightful read....fun characters, Las Vegas showgirls, quirky but believable plot, and lots of dialogue to keep you chuckling and occasionally outright laughing! This is the first of two about glamourous gal friends, Treena and Carly. I am so glad I have both of them to read in a row. The second book is 'Just For Kicks'.

Treena McCall inherits a valuable baseball from her late husband. Jax Gallagher needs his late father's baseball to keep a Russian mobster from breaking his hands. His plan to woo and then rob his estranged father's widow don't go according to his plan.

Good Andersen read, if not typical of her other books.

Treena McCall seems to be your typical Las Vegas Showgirl, what I liked is that this books takes you into a look behind the curtain (so to speak) and gives you a glimpse of how life can be for a showgirl. Jax seems to be your typical bad boy who was estranged from his father, even after his father's death. A professional gambler, he ends up betting an item that isn't his and has to secure a way to get this item from his father's widow, who just happens to be Treena. The character's are well written so that I couldn't wait to find out what happens next. There are a few other characters to add to the mix, Carly, Treena's neighbor and best friend since starting in the business, Ellen, an ex-librarian neighbor, and Mack the handyman. Good laughs, great story.

Not enjoyable (this or Just for Kicks). I read 50-100 pages and then skipped to the last chapter without feeling like I missed something in between. There's a spark missing that would make it worth reading.

From the back of the book:

In a rare moment, professional poker player Jax Gallagher committed a rookie's mistake. He threw an IOU for a valuable baseball that wasn't his to wager into the pot...and lost. Now the man who won the collectible is demanding his prize..or else. The problem is, the ball is in the possession of his estranged father's widow..a flamboyant Las Vegas showgirl. Jax intends to get it back, by any means available.

Only, Treena McCall is anything but the ruthless gold digger Jax expects. She's built a life for herself filled with good friends and hard work. And if she sometimes wonders what it would be like to share her dreams with someone, she can live with the suspense. She's got enough on her plate trying to hang on to her job as a dancer without being wined, dined and seduced by sexy Jax Gallagher.

In Vegas there's more than one way to lose your shirt, and both Jax and Treena know better than to bet on love. Yet sometimes rolling the dice in a high-stakes game can lead to a prize beyond compare, if you have the courage to gamble your heart.
