First in a trilogy by Rita Mae Brown, and one of my favourite books by this author. The book spans 70+ years in the lives of sisters Louise and Julia Ellen Hunsenmeir, so each section is dated - essential for calculating how old they are. Supporting characters are rich and zany (although most, sadly, fade into the background in the two later books).
Helpful Score: 1
Great picture of early 1900, with excellent character development, and the funny lesbian themes that Rita May Brown is known for.

Whether careening through town propelling cars like long-range missiles, or laying waste to a costumed July Fourth parade, Wheezie and Juts Hunsenmeir are Runnymede's most irrepressible, mule-headed sisters act. Together these unrivaled Southern siblings cheerfully raise hell among some of the most colorful townsfolk you're ever likely to meet. Chief among them is elegant, fearless Celeste Chalfonte who kills a man and marries a woman, Ramelle Bowman. And when Ramelle has Curtis Chalfronte's child, no one bats an eyeeven though Ramelle has no intention of leaving Celeste. Then there's Fannie Jump Creighton who runs a speakeasy in her mansion. And activist Fairy Thatcher, who disappears into Hitler's Germany. Through it all run Wheezie and Juts, heading pell-mell into the future with their hands gripped around each other's throats. Spanning more than fifty years of the twentieth century, "Six of One" is a joyous celebration of the human spritand the ties that bind even the unlikeliest families.

Locked in an intense love-hate relationship, two sisters--Julia and Louise Hunsenmeir--grow up, marry, raise their families, and enter old age, surrounded by their fellow citizens of a small town on the Pennsylvania-Maryland border.
A book about a southern family living in a small town.
This was a good continuation of the stories.
If you love Rita-Mae Brown's sassy style...you'll love this one as well. She is a fun read.
