I enjoyed this book to a ridiculous degree. I have a major soft-spot for quirky, "cozy" mysteries so I read quite a bit of them. Lately I've noticed a trend towards more immature and/or dimwitted heroines, and I am SO happy to say that is not what happens here! Kendra is a smart, resourceful character that doesn't whine and does everything in her power to solve her problems. When she meets up with a sexy P.I., she doesn't fall in love- she acknowledges the physical side but does not let it go farther than she's ready for or wants. I also adored all the scenes with the pets, from the cute puppies to the emotional python! If you love strong heroines, "cozy" mysteries and/or animals- snap this book up. I'm now dying to pick up the rest of the series, and I hope she doesn't stop writing it anytime soon!

This is the first in a series about a lawyer that is suspended and has to find a way to make ends meet so ends up becoming a pet sitter. She has a friend that runs a Pet Spa and hooks her up with some clients who happen to be some former clients while she was a practicing attorney. Some end up dead and she has to figure out who and why...she does with the help of a new man in her life who is also a PI and a pet sitting client.
If you like dogs/animals you'll probably like this book. Good cozy mystery

A fun, easy to read book! The story has plenty of pets for the animal lover, mystery for the armchair slueth, and a touch of romance for the romantic. I'll be reading more of Johnston's Pet-Sitter Mysteries.

The first in the Pet-Sitter Mysteries, and it was a fun read. I'm looking forward to the second one.

Amusing cozy with a focus on pets - primarily dogs, but other species make a prominent contribution. The mystery was intriguing right to the end.

This book really dragged for the first two-thirds, seemed to repeat the same day, day after day after day.... The last 50 pages or so were exciting. I didn't figure out the killer until the last chapter. Still, I won't waste my time reading any of the series that come after this one.

This book was rather different for me compared to other mystery books I have read. It seemed to drag on and on and on and just kept repeating itself. And it seemed a bit childish in parts. But it was just an odd combo of Chick Lit and Mystery all in one. A very odd combo (when you read it, you'll understand) I was bored with it about halfway through and just read the last few chapters. I don't want to read the rest of the series as I'm afraid it'll just keep repeating itself.

Fun mystery with the main character as a down on her luck attorney who starts pet-sitting until her legal troubles get settled. They mystery was good and held my attention.

Cute, light-hearted mystery, full of all kinds of pets. However, a lawyer with a suspended license becoming a petsitter kinds of stretches credulity.

Fun story. Good mystery. The pet sitter job makes for an unusual and interesting background. Kendra Ballantyne, the main character, is well portrayed. She does a good job of detection without being superhuman about it.
First book of the pet sitters saga, it explains the details of why Kendra is a pet sitter. Fun book, with good characters and a love of dogs and pets that is well detailed. I enjoyed it a lot and want to read more of Kendra.

Enjoyed the story, different. Will read another of her stories, fun with the varied animals she pet-sits. Some humour, romance and mystery for all, enough to go around.
An okay first in series, it just didn't grab me enough to read subsequent books.
First in Series. Once a high powered litigator in LA, scandal forced Kendra Ballantyne to resign. Now a pet sitter, tenants in her lovely home while she "camps out" in her maid's quarters. One of her first clients is killed, then another, then..... good series
great fun!
loved the huskies and the akita!
and the snakey hero!

Not bad first in a new to me series. I like the ex attorney now pet sitter theory and will be looking for the next book to read. Thought the ending was a little rushed and came out of left field but can look past it as I did enjoy the characters.
Kendra clients all seem to be dying and Kendra fears she will be blamed. She works to prove her innocence.
