Excellent book. Very vivid and believable portrayal of a family dealing with an eating disorder.

This was a frustrating read, only because I wished the father was real so I could punch him. In spite of this, I really liked this book and read it in one sitting.

If you're looking for a story about how a family pulls together as they all deal with one member's battle with anorexia, this isn't the book you're looking for. Instead, we live 16 year old Billie's life for a few months and feel her frustrations with being a teenager and realizing her parents are flawed human beings. She seems to be the only one to recognize her sister's anorexia, but she's 16 - she'd rather be out with friends and she shouldn't have to be the one dealing with this. And she's right - which is why I liked this book so much.

This one goes well with An Egg on Three Sticks by Jackie Fischer. I really enjoy reading through a teenager's lens, especially when they seem to be the only one that has any sense in the whole book, even if they do something stupid and completely teen-agery on the next page.

This novel is narrated by the younger sister of an anorexic. It is not so much about anorexia as it is aboutthe confusion of growing up and the different ways in which people deal with life's stressors. Well written.

I absolutely loved this book. I wish Cathi Hanauer would wtite many more as she should be recognized as a bestselling author. Several friends of mine agree that both of the books "my sisters bones" and "sweet ruin" are fantastic. This book was hard to put down and fabulous. Not only are her books entertaining but she is a very talented, eloquent writer.

This is a story of two sisters and their teen years in today's America. The protagonist is a 16 year old girl coping with peer pressure, critical parents, sexuality, and her yearning for independence. Her sister is 18 and in her first year at Cornell.

The sisters react differently to the pressures of teenhood, the first, by inappropriate sexual behaviour, the other by becoming anorexic.

The novel provides some insight as to why some teens rebel, even when parents are well intended. In addition, it portrays the ethnic mix of some neighborhoods and schools and the resulting cultures and issues.

I recommend this book to those interested in a good story and teen behavior.

I really enjoyed this book and read it in a weekend a few years ago. Between the anorexic sister and the way less than perfect parents, the youngest of the family (narrator of the story) was the only one who seemed to have any sense!

this is what the book looks like, but it's actually a paperback for me.
