Cameron's story doesn't disappoint! Here's a wonderfully strong yet vulnerable hero who has lived through some horrifying experiences at the hand of his ex-wife. All this makes him the type of man you can't help but love. Ainsley was a good woman for him, too; someone who's eager to love him and to help rebuild his trust. Their personalities mesh well and although I felt the love scenes could have used a little more heat, they were still satisfying. The MacKenzie clan has been exciting from the beginning (The Madness of Lord Ian Mackenzie) and based on the sneak peek of the next one (Hart's story), it promises to be just as entertaining. 4.2 stars.

Ainsley Douglas has been asked by Queen Victoria to stop a blackmailer by finding some missing love letters. Ainsley has followed the blackmailer to a houseparty at the home of Hart MacKenzie. Her search leads her to Cameron MacKenzie's bedroom where she is found by Cameron. Cameron has been obsessed with Ainsley since he discovered her in his bedroom six years ago. Now that history is repeating itself, he isn't about to let her go this time. Convincing Ainsley into letting him help find the missing letters is just what he needs to stay close to her.
This is a historical romance with lots of things going on. Cameron suffered abuse from his former wife and now has some major emotional issues. He asks Ainsley to become his mistress because he knows he will never marry again. Ainsley is caught between her duty to the Queen and her feelings for Cameron. Cameron's son, Daniel, wants to see his father happy, but doesn't want to see Ainsley get hurt. The blackmail plot really doesn't take up a lot of time in this story. A second story thread is about Cameron training a racehorse which was abused by its owner. Overall I enjoyed this book a lot more than the previous one in the series. My rating: 4 Stars.

I'm disappointed that I didn't enjoy this book as much as I thought I would, having consulted reviews before starting the novel. While "The Many Sins of Lord Cameron" had many avenues for potential and was *extremely* sensual at times, I would judge it as just 'slightly entertaining', NOT a full-fledged great read.
The "intrigue" hinted at on the back cover was merely just artistocratic female jealousy and revenge. And while the author setting up her male leads as being flawed and overcoming emotional and physically painful childhoods, did she **HAVE** to make Cam a widower haunted by memories of his nymphomaniac/sadist dead wife? Really, it was just too unbelievable to enjoy (for the record, the book I read before this had a storyline that included a deceased wife who came back from the dead!). Combined with the typos throughout the book and inconsistancies (the author wrote that Cam laughed at Ainsley's and Daniel's antics on one page, and then in a different scene three pages later states that 'it had been years since Cam laughed'), this sadly just wasn't a keeper for me.
This was definitely a quick, escapist read; it just sadly lacked substance.

Cam has dealt with trauma from his first wife. She was abusive to Cam and would have been to son Daniel as well, but Cam protected him (and was abused in Daniel's place). She later attempted to murder him and committed suicide. Ainsley works for the Queen. She did something in her past and carries regret. Her brother and her (now deceased) husband rescued her. She loves her family and tries to always do the right thing. She is trying to retrieve some letters that the Queen wrote and ends up in Cam's bedchamber. It's familiar because she was caught by him 6 years ago for a similar reason. Needless to say, that first time made an impression.
Ainsley is someone who is honest and doesn't throw herself at him. She also sees Cam for the lonely and somewhat broken human he is. And he sees Ainsley too. This was a very nice story of 2 lonely people who find each other and realize they have a lot in common. They gradually fall for each other despite their pasts. This family is fun to read. They are different and they love and support each other just as they are. Daniel is very perceptive and forthright for his age. Good introduction with next book- Hart and Eleanor.

An easy read about two strong protagonists who move right along from attraction to love. A good addition to the MacKenzie stories. I await eagerly Hart's story.

I read this while I was sick so I missed all they typos and inconsistency mentioned in the other review.
It was such a fun story. When I read Ian's story I fell in love with Cameron. He was just different enough from Ian and Hart to make the story interesting. He was also terribly naughty with the button game. Ainsley was just sweet yet kinky enough to keep things interesting.
Things that was a nice surprise was that there were really no bad guys here. In a way, that's refreshing. Well, except I would like the slap the Queen but other than that an annoying horse owner everyone had their reasons for their actions.
I also liked that Ashley used mordern day medical problems and put them into the characters (like Ian having Aspergers and Lady Elizabeth most likely is bipolar with severe post partum depression thrown in).
Can't wait to read more from the series.

Oh my, my. Where to begin?
Ive been reading this series from the beginning and found this book to be riveting. Jennifer Ashley has created some of the best Scottish heroes Ive ever read. Every single one of the Mackenzie men are yummy and such a absolute delight to read about.
And the covers on the books? HAWT!
Theres something about a man in a kilt that will make me swoon. Kilts are sexy anyway you cut it. Add in a little Scottish brogue and Im a goner! Need I say more?

Two wounded people... one physically, one emotionally... brought together six years ago. There is also Camerons son, Daniel, intertwined throughout the story and the dialogue between all of them flows nicely. The relationships are wonderfully conflicted and are satisfying.
Reading about any Mackenzie can only compare to sipping on whiskey. The experience as you sip and savor, the aroma and the burn that makes the senses come to life... complications and dysfunction that is the Mackenzie way of life.
As always with a Jennifer Ashley romance -- the beginning will intrigue you and the ending will please you...

Excellent read!!
Best in series (so far).
Playful, delightful, strong characters (I've enjoyed the whole family), with the added bonus of fatherhood. I always seem to enjoy stories that include children in adult fiction...and this one touched me because I recognized a closeness between father & son that I also share. And I've not read another story that showed this unusual relationship (less common?) before.
You'll also find quite a bit of intrigue, especially during the 1st half. There is quite a bit of emotional content (which lends both a hint of reality & unreality). And it is not lacking on the romance or sensual aspects (erotica? these days the lines are so blurred, so be aware!).
Of course, revisiting with the previous characters is always a treat...and you'll be traipsing around several countries & visiting the Queen!
Definitely recommended for the not virtuous, historical romance lovers...but you'll enjoy it more if you read books 1&2.

And he certainly doesn't have the appropriate & natural hair of a Scot. Plus he looks so young, he hasn't started shaving yet - nothing like a nearly 40 yo father!

I wanted to like this book but I really didn't. The first two books were so good, I suppose it is time for a letdown.
I think there is a fine line when drawing heroic male characters who have suffered terrible trauma in their background. If not carefully crafted, the characters can come across as weak or pathetic. While Cam was certainly neither of those things, one can hardly understand why a strong, intelligent man who was not in love with his wife would tolerate such behavior. (The love part is important because we know people stay in abusive relationships out of love, but it was spelled out early that there was no love in that marriage.) At a time when it was relatively easy to put a sane person in an asylum (e.g. his own brother), why wouldn't he put an actual crazy person in one? Especially to protect himself and his son from her? I felt like his back-story weakened the character and while his fears were understandable, I'm not sure it made him more compelling.
The overarching "intrigue" was DOA. The characters were peripheral, as the actual situation didn't directly involve either of the main characters and we didn't really care about the outcome one way or the other.
I suppose in reading the series this book is a must, but as a stand-alone book, I would pass.
