Third book in the series and I am still addicted. The Argeneau of focus in this one was Lucern and he played the role of the curmudgeonly old vamp (over 600 years old) who was growing tired of life. Enter his editor - Kate C Leever. Kate took over "handling" Luc when his old editor died of a heart attack. Growing increasingly annoyed at his lack of communication she finally - in a desperate bid - flew to his house in Toronto to make him commit to an interview or a book tour or just to giving her a phone number so she could contact him. The funny is that Luc writes paranormal romance novels - which of course are actually non-fiction chronologies of his families lives - but are sold as paranormal romance. (Reminds me of a certain J.R. Ward....)

Anywho - Kate gets to Luc's house and of course slap stick comedy and misunderstandings abound. Finally Luc agrees to do the "R.T. Thing" just to get Kate out of his house and out of his life. Poor Luc didn't realize he agreed to 5 days in New York at the Romantic Times Convention! (I know!) And Kate doesn't know he is a Vamp at this point - so you just know it's gonna be all kinds of goodness!

It was fun following Kate and Luc's misadventures and steamy adventures while they wondered what that ringing was - It's the Clue-phone people - answer it! Seriously though - it was very enjoyable and I am already slowly ingesting the 4th book in the series to see what Argeneau Vampire will end up in the Love Seat next.

I'm glad I finally started on this series. Single White Vampire was a cute, amusing, chick-lit style vampire romance. But unlike the thick, flowery, icky romantic writing style of Christine Feehan, this book's style more closely resembles that of MaryJanice Davidson's Undead series.

Lucern Argeneau is a vampire, but he's also a writer. Little does the unsuspecting public realize that the paranormal romance books he's writing are actually accounts of his family's history: the relationship of his mother Marguerite and father Claude, his brother Etienne to Rachel Garrett, his sister Lissianna to Gregory Hewitt... the stories he tells in his books, while fact to him, are fiction to the public because who really believes in vampires anyway?

Kate Leever is Lucern's editor, and pays a visit to Luc to try to convince him to participate in a few publicity events for his books. She is shocked by the reclusive and surly vampirethough she doesn't yet realize that's what he truly is. Between Kate and Luc's mother, they trick him into attending the Romantic Times conference, where Kate begins to wonder about the increasing feelings she has towards him as she begins to crack Luc's hardened exterior and see the true man beneath.

There were a number of funny scenes, such as Luc's introduction to television, and his indignation at watching Buffy the Vampire Slayer. "Did you see that? Buffy just staked that poor vampire. He had yet to do anything even untoward, he just crawled out of his grave and she staked him. That is just not right!" LOL

Great series! I have read 4 books out of this series so far. I started with book 6 and laughed so hard I decided to go back and read them in order. I liked that the author had a new "take" where vampires come from and how they are not the evil dead. It seems that you do not have to read the books in a certain order to understand what is going on and each book is good enough to stand on it's own, but you will get a spoiler on who gets married.... and might ruin the ending of previous books so I would suggest starting them in order. I actually think the author is funny, and has a easy flowing writing style that makes for a fun, quick read.

Book three is my fav so far. I can't wait to read book 4!!

Cute, light read. Not my usual type of book, so it took me a while to get into it. Once I did, though, I finished it quickly and started looking for more books by the author.

An unexpected fun read. I started this hesitant. The first 150 page of this really dragged and was beginning to become redundant. Lucern is a pathetic whining shut in that apparently gave up on the social human species. Kate is his new editor determined to drag his butt out to help save her job. I loved the way this picked up and went to a romance writers convention. It really took things a new surreal way. My biggest peeve about this was the editorial mess. For a book about writers there were a lot of mistakes I had to muddle over for a published book. This will not deter me from reading another book in this series. It was very funny, but not too much cheese.

This installment of the Argeneau family is a wonderful and hilarious read. There are scenes from this book that still make me laugh even after having read the book several times.

I think if I hadn't been reading so many other AWESOME paranormal/vampire authors, I probably would have liked this book. Instead I was bored, skimmed more than half of it, nearly putting it down. I was curious enough to finish it, wanting to know how things were resolved, but I just couldn't get into this book.

I have read the first two books in the series - the first I LOVED, the second was more "meh", but I've noticed sophomore efforts are often weak links, and continued to this one.

In retrospect, I think part of the issue is that if you read a lot of vampire romance, as I do, you accept the notion of vampires being "real" (in literature). So to have the only conflict in the story being vampirism itself, and the vampire not even having an internal struggle (a dark side) or even vamprisim being particularly bad or evil, there is not enough basic conflict to carry the story.

Might be done with Lynsay Sands for a while.
