Simon Bolivar was an incredibly important person in South America. He helped his own country, Venezuela, earn independence. He is also credited with creating several states: Ecuador, Panama, Bolivia, Peru, and Columbia. Bolivar was unique because he didn't see individual states, he saw unified countries that were part of alliances.
This book satisfied my interest in this South American liberator. However, it didn't offer much more. I thought the quotes offered at the opening of each chapter to be 'revolution 101' and didn't really get to the gist of the man. Perhaps I am not being fair. Bolivar seemed to be single-focused on the liberation of South American countries. With such a short lifespan, maybe he never let his focus veer from the revolution. 3.5 stars
