Simply delightful! Rather short for a spy novel, and instead of a plot shaped like a propulsive arrow, it's rather like an onion getting peeled until every single detail that seemed arbitrary or insignificant makes sense. I struggled in the beginning with dialogue that was so quintessentially British upper class that it was hard for this American reader to understand. Likewise the plot seemed to have a lot of holes in it that required the reader to connect disparate things and guess. But all was wrapped up beautifully, if sadly, at the end. Extremely well done, as one would expect from Le Carre.
