Meh. Only so-so. The abused-wife-in-hiding back story was interesting but the story was short on romance and barely skimmed the more intimate details.

I have read many books by this author and she always uses a social issue as part of her storyline. In this book the social issue is domestic and child abuse. Nothing in her descriptions of either are so graphic to make a reader uncomfortable.

After many years of being always in fear and suffering abuse from her husband and not being able to prevent him from abusing her daughter, Amanda Banning has found a way to leave him and she finds herself in Mystic Creek, OR, She has many hopes for the future but thinking nothing good will ever happen for her she writes notes on bright pink paper with her hopes and dreams and lets them fly in the wind.

Jeb Sterling has lived in Mystic Creek his entire life keeps finding these slips of pink paper in his yard. Angry at whom ever is littering, he begins to gather the slips of paper when he realizes there are notes written on them. As he reads them he realizes the writer has had a difficult life.

A horrible blizzard with dropping temps has made living in Mystic Creek a dangerous situation. Jeb and his neighbor go out the morning after the power had been out overnight. Jeb finds a young mother and her daughter shivering in a very very cold house and he convinces her to let him find them a warm place to stay until the power comes back on. He ends up convincing Amanda to stay in his large home even though he can tell she is afraid of him.

Over a few weeks Amanda stops being afraid of Jeb but is terrified that her husband will find her and hurt her and her daughter.

This is a romantic suspense that kept me guessing. Lots of twists and turns but like a good romance it has a happy ending.
